Slumdog

 -Ananda's Flowers-

Ananda is the love of my life.  Why do I love her?  Because she gives so freely to others, even when there is not enough left for her to eat or drink.  When we beg in the streets together, she won't return home until we have begged enough rupees buy bread and rice for all the children in our shanty-town.  What can I give to someone like her who gives what she has to others until there is nothing left?  What can I do for her? 

    Once I asked her where she would like to be for a day, if she could be anywhere.  She said that she would want to be in a field of flowers.  I wondered endlessly how I could bring a field of flowers to our little part of the slums.  One day, the gods answered.

    A truck containing dozens of spools of richly dyed fabric hit a large pothole, and a handful of the spools fell from the back.  They were covered in mud from the street, and so the driver left them.  I took the spools and washed them myself, then I spent the next two days planting Ananda's "flowers" as far as they would stretch around the homes of everyone we knew.

Although I really like India culture, architecture and religion, but in this piece I was inspired by the life of poor people live in slums and how they wrestling for livelihood.
